Characters: Who Returns and Who Is New

Slay the Spire 2 ships with five playable characters: three veterans of the first game and two newcomers. This covers who they are, what changed, and the roster questions people actually search for, sourced from the game files.

The returning three

The Ironclad, the last soldier of the Ironclads, still crushes foes with sword and flame. His pool leans harder than ever on HP as a resource, and the community's Ironclad tier list shows self-damage payoffs at the top.

The Silent, the huntress from outside the Spire, keeps poison and shivs and gains a new discard engine built on the Sly keyword. Her relic pool rates as the strongest in the game in the Silent tier list.

The Defect, the self-modifying automaton, returns with orbs intact plus the new Glass orb, a decaying AoE that rewards fast fights.

The new two

The Necrobinder is a Spireborn lich fighting alongside Osty, her summonable skeletal left hand. Her kit runs on Souls, Ethereal cards, and Doom, an execute debuff that kills enemies outright. The data says she is the strongest character in the game right now; her tier list includes the highest-rated card and four S-tier relics.

The Regent is heir to the Throne of Stars, a skill-chaining royal whose minions do the work while he Forges the Sovereign Blade. His engine cards top the Regent tier list.

Is the Watcher in Slay the Spire 2?

No. The Watcher, and with her the Calm and Wrath stance system, is not in the current five-character roster, and stances do not exist as a mechanic in the game files. The game is in early access with an open roadmap, so the roster growing later is possible, but nothing official points at her yet. Players missing stance-style tempo swings get the closest feel from Regent's skill-chaining turns or Silent's discard loops.

The characters are not reskins of their originals either: returning characters keep their identity but their pools were rebuilt, with new keywords (Sly, Eternal), new mechanics, and rebalanced classics.
